The Emerald pattern by Made by Rae is a simple bias-cut shift dress or top designed to offer comfort whilst still being stylish.
The garment is composed of four main panels and is finished with facings, which highlight the elegant V-shaped neckline and curved hem. The dress view includes pockets and an optional sash.
For maximum comfort and wearability, choose lightweight fabrics with drape to allow the bias-cut design to conform to your body. The center seam allows for some fun pattern play if you use striped or patterned fabric, or becomes a beautiful design feature on a simple solid fabric.
Suggested Fabrics
Light- or mid-weight woven fabric with drape, such as loose-weave cotton or linen blends, rayon challis and other rayon/viscose blends, silk noil, tencel twill, and cotton double gauze.
Choosing heavier/ less drapey fabrics will result in a more structured silhouette.
Fabric Requirements
Top 140cm (54″) wide fabric: 1.25 – 2 yd (1.1 – 1.9 m)
Dress 140cm (54″) wide fabric: 2.5 – 4 yd (2.3 – 3.6 m).
For optional sash, add 0.5 yd/m additional fabric, except plus sizes 1-5 using 44″ (1.1 m) wide fabric, add 0.75 yd (0.7 m).
Sizing
Approx. 8 - 30 (XXS – XL). Please see measurement charts in images.
Use the body measurements chart to select your size using the upper bust measurement.
Then use the finished measurement chart to determine how much ease you will have through the bust and hip for the size selected by subtracting your measurements from the finished measurements for that size. At least 2 inches [5 cm] for bust and 4 inches [10 cm] for hip is recommended.
To achieve the desired amount of ease for your body, go up/down a size, trace between sizes, or blend sizes when your tracing pattern pieces, if necessary.
